This webinar will discuss a brief, yet thorough outline of the 2018 tax reform changes for corporations and individuals. We will touch upon everything from the new pass through entity rules, to understanding whether it is better for you to itemize or take the standard deduction. Further, we will touch upon the changes to the estate tax, and international taxation for those who have taxation issues within those areas.



  • Allison D.H. Soares
    Ms. Soares is a Partner at RJS. As a lawyer, she has representative experience defending individuals and entities before the Internal Revenue Services (IRS), Franchise Tax Board (FTB), Employment Development Department (EDD), and State Board of Equalization (SBOE). In addition to having a JD and Master of Laws in Taxation, Ms. Soares has an MBA in Forensic Accounting. Ms. Soares advises an array of clients on complex business transactions and has an in-depth knowledge of corporate, contract, and tax law. Currently, Ms. Soares provides information to clients regarding avoidance or resolution of problems with federal, state, and local taxing authorities. Ms. Soares is also an adjunct professor at San Diego State University teaching a course on Tax Procedures, Practice and Ethics at the Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy. In 2015, 2016, and 2017, she was name Best of the Bar by the San Diego Business Journal.

    Lauren Suarez
    Ms. Suarez is an associate at RJS. As a lawyer, she has representative experience defending individuals and entities before the Internal Revenue Services (IRS), Franchise Tax Board (FTB), Employment Development Department (EDD), and California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA). Prior to joining our firm, Ms. Suarez was a tax associate at BDO USA, LLP where she worked in the compliance area of tax return preparation for corporations, partnerships, and individuals. She also acquired a large amount of sales and use tax knowledge from previous industry experiences. Ms. Suarez was born and raised in San Diego, California. She attended Loyola University of Chicago for her undergraduate work where she majored in English with minors in Political Science and Business Administration. After college she went on to receive her Juris Doctor with a concentration in Business and Taxation from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, CA. While at McGeorge, Ms. Suarez was a member of the McGeorge Tax Law Society, participated in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, and was involved in the Franchise Tax Board internships for sales and use and income tax. Currently, she is obtaining her LLM in Taxation at the University of San Diego School of Law.
