In this two credit CLE course, Mr. Lowe discusses Risks Attorneys and Law Firms face today regarding the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), this discussion will include a concise overview of the various obligations and liabilities under HIPAA Privacy and Security Issues, the background on HIPAA regulations, HIPAA/HITECH Changes, new HIPAA/HITECH business associate definition, Attorney and Law Firms roles under HIPAA Business Associates, how to comply with the new requirements, the penalty for non-compliance, and specific implications for attorneys, practical advice for conducting a HIPAA Security Assessment, and Breach Notification. This course is a good introduction to HIPAA for lawyers in all areas of practice
