This presentation is intended to provide basic information to practitioners about the handling of admiralty and maritime tort and contract claims. This topic will include a discussion of the various federal and state court jurisdictional issues concerning maritime claims, the categories of personal injury claims, unique admiralty statutory schemes, and liabilities of a vessel, including recreational and fishing vessels and unique doctrines of marine insurance.
Katie Matison is Chair of the London Practice Group. She concentrates her practice upon all aspects of marine complex litigation and transactions, and non-marine complex litigation, including: insurance coverage, reinsurance, pollution, environmental coverage disputes, regulatory shipping, cargo losses, collisions, personal injury, limitation of liability, marine insurance coverage, reinsurance, enforcement of maritime liens, Longshore and Harborworkers Compensation Act, maritime contractual disputes, vessel arrests and preferred vessel mortgages. She has been the Editor and principal author of the Firm’s international publication Admiralty News, now London Market News, since 1993.
